Full description
We will meet you in the lobby of the hotel where you are staying. We will drive about 15 km southwest of Phnom Penh. We will arrive in Choeung Ek. The memorial site at Choeung Ek near Phnom Penh was an orchard! And a Chinese cemetery until 1975. During the Khmer Rouge regime, it became one of the killing fields, the site of the brutal executions of over 17,000 people, most of whom first suffered torture and deprivation in the Toul Sleng prison. Choeung Ek is now a group of mass graves and a memorial stupa containing thousands of skulls. Afterwards, return to Phnom Penh to visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21). With the hill of poisonous trees in mind, Pol Pot converted the once popular high school into a maximum security prison. 20,000 people were imprisoned there, many of whom were tortured for information. Today it serves as a museum and a reminder of dark days.
